I Realized I Was Really Old When I Found Out I Have Osteoporosis
After a recent bone density test, I found out that I have osteoporosis. Yeah, it's not exactly the most exciting news I've ever received, but it's a wake-up call that you can only ignore your age for so long.
For those of you who don't know, osteoporosis is a condition where your bones become weak and brittle, which can increase your risk of fractures.
It's more common in women, especially as we get older, and it's not something you want to mess around with. It can get so bad that when you bump into a table your leg can fracture! Does this mean no more hands free biking for me? No way ma! I ain't giving up my free wheeling life anytime soon.
I've always been the type of person to ignore my age. I never wanted to be one of those people who's constantly talking about their aches and pains or how things used to be better "back in the day."
But the reality is, aging is a natural part of life, and we can't just stick our heads in the sand and pretend it's not happening.
So, what does this all mean for me? Well, for starters, I'm taking my osteoporosis seriously. I'm making lifestyle changes, like getting more exercise and following the Plant Paradox diet (I'll talk more about that in a later post). I typically shy away from pharmaceutical medications which traditional doctors recommend and have decided to start with this recipe for consuming calcium rich eggshells after reading this article and this study on the benefits of consuming eggshells.
This experience has made me realize that it's okay to embrace the reality of aging. It's okay to talk about your aches and pains, and it's okay to admit that things aren't as easy as they used to be. We shouldn't be ashamed of getting older – it's a privilege that not everyone gets to experience.
So, if you're like me and you've been ignoring your age, it's time to step up and take control of your health. Get those check-ups you've been putting off, start making healthier choices, and don't be afraid to talk about your aging journey with your loved ones. It might not be the most glamorous topic, but it's an important one.
